Top Golf Vacation Spots

Top Golf Vacation Spots

by Andre Sanchez

When considering the top golf vacation resorts, much depends on your own particular circumstances and preferences, your budget, and whether you are traveling alone, in a group or as a family.

For example, if you have a young family you would probably be better heading off to Florida and vacationing at one of the golf resorts there, such as Grand Cypress Resort at Orlando, where you can enjoy 45 of some of Jack Nicklaus’ best holes while the kids have a ball at Disney World.  Or how about the LaPlaya Beach & Golf Resort in Naples with a championship course and a great white sandy beach for the family at Vanderbilt Bay?

If you are going with your buddies, on the other hand, you don’t want to be surrounded by families, and perhaps your foursome want to try out some of these desert courses in Arizona or Nevada.  These make great vacations and Phoenix and Scottsdale are renowned for the quality of their courses.  How about Las Vegas:  you can enjoy the golf during the day and the casinos at night.  Just great for a bunch of guys or gals that want a bit of golf and to hit the town at night.

Myrtle Beach on the Grand Strand will allow you to enjoy that great Carolinas sun and the hundreds of golf courses around the place.  It’s great for the family with all these beaches and fun fairs, and the shopping is fantastic.  Why not try some golf tuition while you are there, and get a day course at the  Hilton Golf Academy?  Amaze your buddies when you get back by whacking that ball right down the fairway 50 yards further than you ever did before.

If winter sports are your thing you can get them all year round in Colorado.  Vail is the most popular with all its golf courses and sports resorts, but Aspen is also excellent.  You get the benefit of that magnificent mountain scenery while play your golf at high altitude and drive the ball farther than ever before. Just imagine all the forests, lakes and wildlife up their.  You can also fit in a bit of hunting if that’s what you like.

Perhaps you want something out of the USA, such as in the home of golf?  You can have a vacation touring all of Scotland’s  British Open Championship courses, such as St. Andrews with its six municipal courses including the Old Course, or Muirfield, Carnoustie, Troon and Turnberry.  These are vacations to die for, and they needn’t be too expensive.  As with any golfing vacation, you should set yourself a budget and split it between the golf and the rest. Then see what you can get for the golf part.

Scotland is in Europe, and other European spots for golf are Spain and Germany.  They have some excellent courses such as the famous La Manga course in Murcia. Then there is England or Ireland, both with famous golf courses such the World Masters venue at Wentworth or the K Club, the  2006 Ryder Cup course in County Kildare.

How about something even more exotic, such as the Clearwater Bay course, with its fabulous view overlooking the Eastern Approach to Hong Kong Harbor, or try Dubai with the Emirates Golf Course, venue of the Dubai desert Classic, or the Dubai Creek golf course.  Both are testing championship courses that are open for visitors.  Japan is famed for its championship courses, and the Tom Watson course at Miyazaki-Ken Kyushu Island is a fabulous seaside resort course that is just great for the family, or anybody wanting to combine golf with a beach resort vacation.

It is important that you look around carefully if you decide on a vacation at a destination unknown to you.  Chose a resort, or golf course, that has good reviews, because there many vacation golf resorts on the internet that look great but you end up in substandard accommodation and a substandard golf course miles away from any other civilization.

Check out the internet carefully and make sure that the courses or resorts are what they say.  Pick up the phone and ask them questions.  If there is no phone number, just an online booking service, leave it alone.  Also ask for discounts since many vacations are advertised at a base price, and the agents are frequently allowed to offer discounts.

Whatever type of golf vacation you are looking for, there is something to meet any taste whatsoever, and also any pocket.  There are top golf vacation spots for families, single sex groups, individuals or couples; you name it, you can have it.  The internet is your best starting point, and if you choose the right season there are loads of bargains to be found.
