The New First Class Air Travel

The New First Class Air Travel

The last several years have brought many changes to first class air travel, with many more on the way.  The airlines are now in competition to provide long-haul first class flyers with the best possible amenities in order to lure them to flying their airline.  While first class air travel is non-existent on shorter flights, it is a thriving business on longer flights that typically last anywhere over 6 hours.

The first class experience may begin even before you board the plane, with many airlines offering airport lounges for first class passengers.  Popular years ago, the airport lounges were in decline up until September 11.  Now that tightened air travel security forces passengers to spend more time at the airport the airline lounge is again becoming trendy.

The Lounge

The airline lounge is a place to relax while waiting for your flight to board. It is now a luxurious place with comfortable seating and waiter service.  You can order food or snacks and any beverage of your choice.  There are televisions and DVD players.  There are desk areas where you can connect your laptop to the Internet.  Stepping into the lounge is like stepping into a tranquil oasis amid the craziness of the airport.  A concierge can attend to your needs and will ensure that you are notified when boarding for your flight will begin.

The Seat

First class seating has always been quite comfortable with seats that lounge back.  However, the new seats are even better.  “Sleeper seat” is the new buzzword of the airlines.  It refers to the new seats offered on many first class flights.  Some seats can actually fold down into a bed while others are described as a pod.  They are revolutionizing the world of travel by incorporating a way to comfortably sleep in your seat.  The seats also offer better designs for working, eating and watching television.  The seating areas often have individualized lighting, and laptop ports.  Many seats have an inflatable lumbar support system that can be adjusted to your specific comfort level.

The Meal

Another area that is improving greatly for first class flyers is the food service.  While the food offerings in first class have always been better than those of other passengers on board, the new first class food is on another level.  Meals are comparable to those served in the finest restaurants.  Some airlines are going so far as to have chefs on board to specially prepare meals for first class guests.  Dinner fare may include the best beef or seafood available, with fresh ingredients brought in for the meal.

The Other Amenities

Airlines are becoming increasingly aware of the needs of their first class passengers and are starting to fulfill all their requests.  This includes spa treatments during the flight such as manicures and pedicures or even massages. They are making provisions for the flyers to be able to have more privacy by closing special curtains.  The attendants offer passengers any food item or beverage they desire during the flight.  The flight attendants are becoming more of personal assistants than just wait staff.

Of course, all this special treatment doesn’t come cheap.  However, if you are willing to pay for it you will surely enjoy all the additional special treatment you will begin to see.
